Jules & Lauren from Bable, on Motherhood & Business
In this edition of the journal, we had the privilege of chatting with Lauren & Jules, the dynamic duo behind Bable, also known as the Baby Food Bible. They share their journey through motherhood, navigating the balance between career and mum guilt. Bable emerged from the uncertainties they encountered while introducing solid foods to their firstborns. Fueled by a determination to establish healthy eating habits from the outset, they created Bable. The two have recently launched their new Baby Food Bible, a nourishing guide to feeding the whole family.
What do you love the most about being a mum?
Dropping the kids to daycare, JUST KIDDING :P. Oh where to begin!! There is so much we love about being mums but to name a few: when they call us mumma, knowing we’re the most important people in their whole world, watching their little personalities come out as they get older and watching them grow up into little people, their little kisses and hugs.
What has been the hardest period of motherhood for you and how did you deal with it?
I think for both of us it was the jump from one to two kids whilst trying to finish our book. It was A LOT! It was a really crucial time in our careers with deadlines in every direction. The jump to two is huge, looking after your toddler whilst recovering from birth, figuring out breastfeeding again, up most of the night feeding and settling, add in a book to finish and ensuring business continued as usual, we both really struggled with finding the balance. We were really lucky we had eachother through all of this to be able to tag team our workloads.
How do you, as both a mother and a business owner, manage to maintain a healthy balance between your personal and professional life? Any advice you can share?
The juggle is real. When we’re with our kids, we try to be as present as possible, that's not to say we don’t have really busy periods where we have no choice but to work with the kids in tow.. In all honestly, it comes with a lot of mum guilt. Our kids are number one but our careers are also important to us. We mostly try to work late nights when they’re asleep but we love what we do so it doesn’t feel like work. Balance currently isn’t quite there just yet, but we’re working on it.
Has your approach to business changed since having kids?
Yes, for us it was a career 180. In fact our business revolves around feeding kids so work is kinda just real life anyway. The two go hand-in-hand nicely.
How will you be celebrating Mother’s Day this year?
Hopefully a massage and facial at self followed by some quality time with our families.
Who are the women in your life that inspire you?
Our mums. They always said, “wait until you have kids of your own”.. they were right.. it’s challenging and beautifully chaotic. How they raised all us kids, we’ll never know. Thanks mums for all that you do.
