Which Nail Treatment is Right for You?
Choosing the perfect nail treatment should resonate with your personal style, your lifestyle, remain budget-friendly both in the short and long term, and provide a touch of tender loving care for your nails. At The Parlour Room, we've got many nail options crafted to cater to your unique tastes and needs.
Shape
Deciding on the perfect nail shape is a personal and creative choice. Here are some helpful tips to guide you:
Explore Styles:
Square or almond-shaped nails are great for showcasing brighter colours and nail art, whereas shorter, rounded nails are a more classic option.
Consider Your Lifestyle:
For those with an active lifestyle or hands-on work, practical shapes like square or round are often more suitable.
If you're all about low-maintenance, opt for a shape that aligns with your daily activities.
If you're gentle with your hands, you have the freedom to be a bit more adventurous and try out longer shapes and styles.
Finger and Hand Shape:
Take into account the natural shape of your fingers and hands. Different nail shapes can enhance or complement your hand's inherent structure.
Almond or oval shapes can create the illusion of longer fingers, while square shapes can compliment shorter fingers.
Nail Health:
Be mindful of your nail health. Longer shapes like oval or almond may demand more length, which could pose a challenge for naturally weak nails. If your nails are weak or damaged, you may want to opt for a strengthening treatment.
Practicality Matters:
Consider the practicality of the shape. Some shapes are more prone to breakage or snagging, so choose one that aligns with your daily routine.
Nail Services
At TPR, we provide a range of services including BIAB (Builder In a Bottle), Evo, Dazzle Dry, Shellac, BIO Sculpture, and Classic Polish. Leading up to your appointment, we do advise the below:
Show your cuticles some love! Apply cuticle oil every day for the entire month leading up to your appointment. Doing it just the day before won't do them justice.
Give your nails a break 24 hours before your appointment—no excessive soaking in baths or saunas. Softened nails might impact with nail treatment.
Please don't play nail artist at home! Removing your existing nail treatments can cause breakage and weaken the nails, as well as mess with the results of your next appointment. Let the pros handle it!
To help you choose your perfect nail treatment, read through our guide below:
BIAB
Pro:
Similar to a gel, BIAB (which stands for Builder In A Bottle) is the latest product innovation from The Gel Bottle Inc. Its unique formula mimics the strength and durability you find with SNS and acrylic but is by far much healthier for your nail plate underneath.
Where SNS and acrylic can be quite restrictive and harsh on your nails, often leaving your nail plate extremely weak, dry and dehydrated, BIAB on the other hand, can last longer than a typical gel mani (anywhere up to 3-4 weeks) and combines all the benefits people know and love from these treatments, including strength and durability, without impacting the health of the nail. With BIAB you don’t need to book in for a soak off each time, rather much like your acrylics, you can get infills every 3-4 weeks and if you like the look of longer nails, you can book in for BIAB with extensions.
In order to maintain nail health, we do recommend that you have your BIAB removed completely (not just infilled) every 3-4 appointments.
Cons:
BIAB does require upkeep and maintenance and you will need to book your appointments every 3-4 weeks for infills. We recommend every 3 weeks. BIAB appointments are 1 hour - 1 hour / 30 mins.
Shellac
Pro:
Gel nails or Shellac provide a soft, neat, glossy finish, where the treatment consists of a base coat, two coats of colour and a topcoat with each layer cured and set under LED light. People often get confused between gel and shellac however, they are the same thing, shellac is a popular brand of gel polish.
One of the many benefits of gel nails is that you don't need to account for any drying time as each layer, first, a base coat, followed by multiple layers of polish and finished with a top coat and cuticle oil is cured as you go. So it’s perfect if you’re short on time. Around 45 minutes is all you’ll need. Can be applied to toe nails.
Con:
The gel treatment is quite flexible however, because of this, they tend to only last around 10- 14 days before you need another appointment. This is because they’re very soft and can quite easily chip or breakaway, especially when they’ve been exposed to regular household chemicals such as soaps and cleaning products. If you’re hard on your nails, we wouldn’t recommend this option.
Bio Sculpture
Pro:
Bio Sculpture represents a unique gel-based treatment that not only acts as a protective layer but also enhances overall nail health. Its formulation, rich in vitamins and minerals, fosters strength and length, making it an excellent choice for nail care. Unlike other permanent polish manicures, Bio Sculpture offers versatility, allowing you to sculpt and shape the product according to your preferences. The results last for up to 2-3 weeks, showcasing its durability and longevity.
Con:
Bio Sculpture requires professional salon soaking for removal.
Dazzle Dry
Pro:
Dazzle Dry employs UV lamp-free technology and dries within 5 minutes. It can be effortlessly and safely removed using either acetone or non-acetone polish remover, eliminating the need for soaking, scraping or buffing. This makes it a convenient and low-maintenance choice, particularly for individuals seeking a one-time nail treatment.
Con:
Dazzle Dry typically has a duration of around 7-14 days.
Evo
Pro:
EVO Gel is a bottle-and-brush gel system with a focus on nail health and safety. The formula is not only quick and easy to apply but also durable, providing a long-lasting and high-shine finish. The gel overlay ensures flexibility for better wear. Ideal for soft, thin, and weak nails, EVO offers support to all nail types. If you enjoy changing your nail color frequently, this could be a great option for you. Can be applied to toe nails.
Con:
EVO Nail typically maintains its quality for approximately two weeks.
Classic Polish
Pro:
Classic nail polish has minimal impact on nail health, is budget-friendly, involves low commitment, and is easy to remove. Can be applied to toe nails.
Con: Typically lasts for 2-7 days on fingers but much longer on toes. Can take up to 45mins to set properly.
